“Markus Michelucci & Sound Refuge;
an acoustic act of one to a dynamic group of 7.”
Solo or with the band, Markus Michelucci & Sound Refuge have often been likened to James Taylor, Cat Stevens, The Great Lake Swimmers and Passenger. Always bringing audiences a range of alternative, contemporary folk music from the calm and reassuring to the passionate and cerebral; they create an alluring world of instrumentation, with powerful lead moments, harmony and hopeful, inspiring lyrics.
Markus began his Sound Refuge project in Vancouver and released his debut album “Umbrellas In Winter”, with producer and engineer Eric Weiden, in 2010. His single “Vancouver’s On Fire” gained extensive airplay on the CBC and helped to fuel a tour of Western Canada. He has always been accompanied by imaginative and exceptionally talented musicians both on stage and in the studio, many of which he is proud to call his friends. In 2014 Markus released his second album, “Excuse Me, I Think You’re In Neutral”, again with the brilliant Eric Weiden as producer and engineer, just days before relocating the project to London, England to continue itʼs growth.
Since then, busking on the streets of London has become an enlightening and brilliant part of Markus’ life and career as a musician. You can find him along the South Bank by the London Eye, at Borough Market, on the streets of Greenwich or anywhere throughout the UK. Just a friendly face performing his own works and mixings in favourites from the rest of the musical world.
Markus has also been lucky enough to welcome a new group of musicians to the project, bringing professional and creative approaches to old songs and new, giving them new life. London, the UK and Europe have provided endless opportunities for Markus and the project in their short time here, providing the inspiration for new songs, touring and an opportunity to be involved with film. Shortly after arriving, Markus began performing as an actor and writing music for film. Markus and the band have performed at a number of festivals throughout the UK including the Greenwich Tall Ships Festival, Rochester Sweeps Festival, Minehead Musicians Festival, Rickmansworth Canal Festival, and Barnival in Hampshire. Markus has performed on BBC Radio Kent and Shoreditch Radio, with radio play on the Josie Jo Radio Show and a number of community and internet radio stations.
The project having recently returned from a tour in Canada and having toured France last summer will return to Europe in 2017 to support the upcoming album. The latest release “There’s This Girl” is available to purchase on Bandcamp
